Good news for Ontario homeowners, the province has just announced it will be rolling out an eco-energy retrofit program. Details have yet to be announced other than the allocation of $100m fund to the program, but typically these programs provide substantial rebates for homeowners to upgrade furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners etc. to more energy efficient models. Previous programs required homeowners to have an energy audit carried out first which identifies the areas where the biggest energy reductions can be achieved and making recommendations. Homeowner can typically save hundreds of dollars per year and hundreds of dollars off the purchase of the equipment. Given the recent hikes in Hydro electricity prices and the rises that are still projected this is particularly welcome news.
