Thanksgiving dinner feast with a delicious turkey

A Big Green Egg Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is this weekend, which means it’s time for your guests to be in awe of your meal thanks to your kitchen secret — the Big Green Egg (nicknamed EGG by fellow eggheads)! This handmade ceramic cooking device offers all-weather cooking with patented technology that steals the dinner show with every single meal.

Before you begin to cook up your delicious Thanksgiving meal, make sure that you have the convEGGtor®. Don’t have one yet? Pick it up from The Fireplace Center before the big day arrives! This accessory allows you to roast your turkey to perfection through the heat-directing barrier between the food and the fire which turns your EGG into an outdoor convection oven. Cooking your turkey has never been easier! Set your EGG temperature to 325°F/163°C and set your timer for the size of your turkey.

The hardest part of cooking with the EGG is the irresistible smell of your turkey roasting. Resist the temptation to open the dome to see how the turkey is cooking. The EGG is made to work with its lid closed while it cooks as it uses a patented air control device to regulate the temperature. Minimize the time you have the dome opened when you check or are removing food to prevent heat loss. As the EGG website states, “If you’re looking … you’re not cooking!”

Warning: The delicious smell of your roasting turkey may attract the attention of jealous neighbours!

The Turkey

For your Thanksgiving meal, a moist roasted turkey with delicious sides is the goal. What if we told you that — contrary to popular belief — you don’t have to spend all day cooking? The EGG will cook your turkey at a rate of 12 minutes per pound! If you are feeding a family of four, you can certainly cook your Thanksgiving Turkey in under an hour with the EGG! We know it sounds too good to be true — but trust us, it is!

A staple recipe for an EGG turkey is this Smoked Brine Turkey, courtesy of Kevin Rathbun via Big Green Egg. Check out the recipe here. However, if you are looking for more of a BBQ flavour this Thanksgiving, try this recipe from The BBQ Buddha. Both are sure to delight your guests!

Note: Don’t forget to use a thermometer to check that the turkey has reached a minimum safe internal temperature of 165°F/74°C. Click here for more turkey tips via the EGG Turkey Cheat Sheet!
